South Korea’s home-grown fast food restaurant chain operator Mom’s Touch & Co. announced Monday that it will advance into the Japanese market by opening a directly-managed store in Shibuya, Tokyo, in April.

The Shibuya store will be Mom‘s Touch’s first directly operated store overseas, occupying approximately 418 square meters with 200 seats.

The store will be located in a space where McDonald‘s operated a branch for 39 years.

“The location is adjacent to Shibuya Scramble Crossing, with a daily foot traffic of about 3 million people,” said a Mom’s Touch official. “It is also strategically positioned in an area where Shibuya Station and a large shopping mall are situated.”

The brand plans to introduce a reservation system and strengthen communication with local customers through pre-opening promotions. In October 2023, Mom’s Touch had operated a pop-up store in Shibuya.

Mom‘s Touch will also attend the Tokyo Franchise Show, the largest franchise trade fair in Japan, which will take place this week. It is hoping to find partners for its franchise business expansion in Japan.

“Japan’s burger market is worth about 7 trillion won ($5.32 billion),” the official said. “We plan to promote Korean burger’s excellence in Japan, while accelerating our efforts to expand our presence in the global market.”
